ABC Passes on Female-Fronted Greatest American Hero Reboot

Another abandoned television series this week: ABC Network has passed on their Hannah Simone-starring Greatest American Hero reboot.

In a since-deleted tweet, the New Girl actress Simone commented that "network tv isn't ready for the first brown female superhero on tv." The text from the tweet (which numerous outlets ran) said:

We just found out that network tv isn't ready for the first brown female superhero on tv. The Greatest American Hero won't be on @ABCNetwork this fall.. and our hearts are broken. This would have been history making and so empowering for young girls around the world. Get loud RT pic.twitter.com/cbGuWu24pO

Simone then tweeted a decidedly more positive message, talking about the FOX series New Girl coming to an end after seven years. She also mentions "getting the chance to shoot a pilot about a flawed weird superhero", more than likely talking about Greatest American Hero.

While we're not surprised the series didn't get picked up… actually, we are kind of surprised the series didn't get picked up.

To explain, the second attempt at rebooting Magnum P.I. just got picked up to series on CBS, the MacGyver reboot is still on, Roseanne is on primetime, Charmed is coming back (so is Roswell), so why NOT a minority-led superhero reboot? Perhaps there was something missing though, and sadly, we'll never get to see the pilot.
