Anthony Mackie Rings in Second Round Deal with Netflix
Anthony Mackie does not appear to be ready to kick back and spend all of that Marvel residual money he's earned- instead, he's making deals with studios and keeping busy.
Mackie will be taking over the role of Takeshi Kovacs for the second season of Altered Carbon for Netflix, which was played by Joel Kinnaman in season one. One of the great twists in Altered Carbon is that Kovacs can be played by different actors in different seasons, since his consciousness is able to be rebooted in different bodies.
Netflix and Anthony Mackie appear to have liked working together, as he has signed a deal with the streaming service to star in and produce a new sci-fi series, Outside the Wire, according to Deadline.
Mackie will be playing a drone pilot in the future, who is sent on a dangerous mission into a militarized zone. Once there, he ends up working for an android officer who is on the hunt for a doomsday device- and time is running out, since there is a group of insurgents who might get to it first.
Anthony Mackie will be producing Outside the Wire with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones from Automatik. Script duties are being handled by Rob Yescombe and Rowan Athale, and Escape Plan's Mikael Håfström will be directing.
Mackie has been keeping pretty busy lately, with the upcoming Fox thriller The Woman in the Window, George Nolfi's The Banker, another sci-fi property called Synchronic, Altered Carbon's second season, and a remake of Point Blank, also for Netflix.
Pre-production is underway on the new Falcon and the Winter Soldier series for Disney+, in which Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson, who was handed a certain shield at the end of the latest Avengers movie.
Automatik will be producing Outside the Wire for Netflix. The company previously worked on La La Land and Insidious, and will be bringing Hugh Jackman's Against All Enemies to theaters soon.
