Chris Jericho Has Words for Pineapple Pete Heading Into AEW Dynamite
After a month sharing the commentary booth with Tony Schiavone, followed by a tag team street fight victory over Matt Hardy and Kenny Omega last week, Chris Jericho will be back in one-on-one action on AEW Dynamite this week in Jacksonville, Florida. Not only that, but Jericho's match will be the culmination of a feud building for weeks as Le Champion face Sugar Dunkerton, otherwise known as Pineapple Pete, in a singles match. Suge D appeared in the audience of AEW's Georgia tapings where Jericho was serving on commentary, wearing a Hawaiian style shirt emblazoned with pineapples. The shirt prompted Jericho to complain about the wrestler, calling him "Pineapple Pete." The name stuck, with pretty much everyone calling him that, including the rest of the commentary team on subsequent shows.
Perhaps looking for revenge for Jericho ruining his identity, Pineapple Pete will face off against Jericho on AEW Dynamite this week. Jericho took to Instagram to cut a promo on Pineapple Pete ahead of the match.
"His name is @sugardunkertonfasho, but I call him #PineapplePete," Jericho wrote. "I gave this guy a new name, a new gimmick, a new T-shirt and a whole new level of notoriety. And this Wednesday, I'm going to give him something that only the chosen few experience…a match against #LeChampion! Get ready for the night of your life #PineapplePete….I'm gonna make ya famous. @aewontnt @allelitewrestling"
Jericho's match against Pineapple Pete is just one of the matchups we can expect from Dynamite on Wednesday. We'll also see MJF's first match back since his injury, Lance Archer and Jake the Snake Roberts appearing, Santana and Ortiz vs. Matt Hardy and Kenny Omega, Brodie Lee vs. Christopher Daniels, and a fatal four-way between Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, Penelope Ford, and Britt Baker on Dynamite on Wednesday, plus more matches that haven't been announced yet, we can reasonably assume. But Jericho vs. Pineapple Pete may well be the breakout attraction of the night.
