As we approach the halfway point of season two of Daredevil: Born Again, things will seem only to get worse for those caught in Mayor Wilson Fisk's (Vincent D'Onofrio) warpath after the events of the recent episode "Gloves Off." As Kingpin's Anti-Vigilante Task Force is increasing their raids against superheroes/vigilantes and their followers, the resistance led by Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), and BB Urich (Genneya Walton) is only ramping up their respective efforts to take him down by exposing his operations. Things took a dramatic turn with the charity boxing match, which featured the Mayor and his large frame in an exhibition bout. D'Onofrio spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the climactic event concerning Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) and Fisk's wife, Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer). The following contains major spoilers.

During the match, Bullseye strikes again, outmatching Kingpin every which way, but as the assassin strikes, Kingpin tries to take cover while shielding Vanessa from the line of fire. Daredevil comes in to save his archnemesis's life again by tackling Bullseye and tackling him through the glass outside the arena. Unfortunately, amidst the carnage, a glass shard accidentally makes its way to Vanessa's head, and she's left bleeding as Wilson holds his wife, pleading for medical help before it arrives.

"[Wilson's] devastated," D'Onofrio told EW. "He's always been broken, he's always been incredibly narcissistic, and that midway point moving forward, he becomes more of a loose cannon than he has ever been before. Considering the position that he's in as mayor, it's a dangerous thing." The actor compared their experience during the third season of the Netflix series as "acting," but Born Again brought "real emotions" in both.

"The idea of a friend getting hurt, especially someone as incredible as Ayelet, it affected me, like a good friend that's been hurt," D'Onofrio explains. "I know that might sound silly to some people, but when you get invested in a character or, more than that, when you get invested in a story, and you've done emotional work with your scene partner — in this case, Ayelet — for years and years and years, there's no acting required."
