Mary McCormack Cast in New 1970s Comedy Series from Tim Doyle

In Plain Sight's Mary McCormack has been cast to play the female lead opposite Michael Cudlitz in a new comedy pilot from Tim Doyle (Last Man Standing). The pilot will be written and executive produced by Doyle while Randall Einhorn will direct. The as-yet-named comedy takes place in the 1970s and focuses on an Irish-Catholic family with a working-class dad (Cudlitz) and stay-at-home mom (McCormack) along with eight rambunctious sons all going up in one of the country's most turbulent decades.

McCormack's Peggy Dwyer is described as controlling and formidable. She is married to Mike and is raising their eight sons that range from the oldest at 20 and the youngest an infant. She is a 1950s idea of a housewife who can't drive, hardly ever leaves the home, and seems kind of lost in the age of change and awakening. Mike makes the money and she keeps it from being wasted, budgeting everything to the penny and keeping the household running. She ends up having a close bond with her second oldest boy's girlfriend, Cheri, who is a feminist and starts giving Peggy ideas for her own life.

McCormack has proven to be versatile, easily navigating both comedy and drama. Besides leading the USA Network's U.S. Marshal series In Plain Sight, she was a regular on The West Wing and has recently appeared on Falling Water, House of Lies, Angie Tribeca, and Nobodies. She co-starred in the AMC series Loaded as well.
