New Women's Tag Champs Crowned on WWE Raw… But Why Though?

Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky won the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships on WWE Raw last night, defeating Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah. Rodriguez and Aliyah won the belts just two weeks ago, defeating Kai and Sky in the finals of a tournament. Damage Control's win begs the question: why didn't they just win the belts in the tournament in the first place?

Conventional wisdom at the time suggested that Kai and Sky, who returned at SummerSlam to form the new stable with Bayley, might have lost their first big match because WWE expected Sasha Banks and Naomi to return, and it wouldn't do for them to quickly beat Kai and Sky for the titles. So, the theory goes, WWE gave the titles to Rodriguez and Aliyah to act as transitional champs. But now that they've lost the belts to Kai and Sky, it begs a new question: did something happen to prevent or delay Sasha and Naomi's return? Time will tell.

In another title match on WWE Raw, Bianca Belair successfully defended her Raw Women's Championship against Sonya Deville. Another big highlight from Raw this week was the in-ring return of Johnny Gargano, who defeated Chad Gable in a match, but was attacked by Austin Theory afterward. That led to a promo by Kevin Owens, who tried to convince Theory to change his ways, resulting in a pull-apart brawl. And in the main event, Dominik Mysterio took on Edge, but the match ended in a DQ when Judgment Day got involved.

Outside the ring, Dexter Lumis broke into The Miz's house and drew a picture of The Miz and his family. Somehow, Dexter Lumis is the face in this feud, which didn't sit well with Corey Graves, who was the lone voice of reason pointing out that Lumis is a sick stalker terrorizing children as the other announcers blew it off as all in good fun. WWE Raw continues to be a thoroughly watchable show with the new creative regime in place, even if it is still too long.

A prophecy claims that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Unfortunately, nobody can tell when the comics industry has reached its "darkest days" because it somehow keeps finding new lows to sink to. No matter! Jude Terror stands vigilant, bringing the snarkiest of comic book and pro wrestling clickbait to the undeserving readers of Bleeding Cool.
