Patton Oswalt Says He Was "Born to Play" M.O.D.O.K.

The other day Marvel blew our collective minds by announcing four adult animated TV shows based on the characters of Howard the Duck, M.O.D.O.K, Hit-Monkey, and Tigra and Dazzler who are eventually going to team up for a show called The Offenders. Not only are these shows actual things that are happening in real life but they are reportedly going to be "adult-centric" which is likely why they are heading to Hulu instead of Disney+. All of these shows have excellent creative teams and the official Marvel site got the chance to speak to the creative team behind Marvel's M.O.D.O.K.; Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum who are serving as executive producers for the show. Oswalt seemed to not only say that this was meant to be but also might have just spoiled who is voicing M.O.D.O.K.

"I could not be more excited for you guys to see what we do with M.O.D.O.K. He's the character I was, sadly, born to play."

Dazzler, Tigra, Hit-Monkey, and M.O.D.O.K.

That is by no means a confirmation but "play" was an odd choice of words. As for Blum is excited to explore who M.O.D.O.K. is and bringing to life the "amazing flawed character" that Stan Lee originally wrote.

"Who is M.O.D.O.K. to me? Well, you have to start at his creation. I find M.O.D.O.K. to be just as iconic as all the other classic Jack Kirby / Stan Lee collaborations. Kirby's design is the stuff of nightmares yet he's also somehow… slightly adorable? Stan Lee wrote him as this amazing flawed character, always being undone by his inflated ego and thin skin. Over the years he's been portrayed as both a menace and a joke and I think our show is much more interested in exploring him as a human being. A human being who's also a Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing! At the end of the day M.O.D.O.K. is a giant-headed, petulant, insecure, egomaniac with zero social skills. And I for one find that incredibly relatable."

It really does sound like these two are the men for this job. At the moment we don't have any sort of release dates for these shows, but it's going to be a ton of fun to watch them all come together. Just as the adult side of the Marvel universe at Netflix is ending, a new corner is opening up in animation. Color us intrigued.
