Pop Culture Jeopardy! Tapped This SNL Star to Host: Who is Colin Jost?

Prime Video's Pop Culture Jeopardy! has found the game show's host in Saturday Night Live star and Weekend Update anchor Colin Jost.

Pop Culture Jeopardy!, the first streamer-exclusive incarnation of the popular game show, found its host in Saturday Night Live cast member and Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost for Amazon's Prime Video. As SNL is currently in the off-season, the actor and comedian is helping in the coverage of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics on NBC in Tahiti, and like a champ, is battling a toe injury while covering the surfing competition.

Pop Culture Jeopardy! is the latest spinoff from the original game show that premiered on NBC in 1964. While its two network incarnations ran until 1979, the two syndicated versions, starting with the weekly incarnation that lasted from 1974 to 1975 with the modern incarnation we know today, premiered in 1984 with Alex Trebek serving as host. The United States Postal Service celebrated Trebek, who passed in 2020, with a commemorative Forever Stamp released on July 22nd on what would have been his 84th birthday, and also honoring the 60th anniversary of Jeopardy!

Jost discovered he was a clue twice on the original Jeopardy! twice, but the contestants didn't respond correctly. "I found out about it because my mom sent me the clip, and she said, 'I would have gotten it.' When you're a clue on Jeopardy!, you feel like you've made it, but then in the same moment you realize, 'Oh, I have not,'" he told Deadline Hollywood. On his reaction to his new gig, "What is: I'm excited?" The actor served as a writer on SNL for 19 seasons since 2006 and elevated to a main cast member in 2014, sharing Weekend Update anchor duties with Michael Che as the duo's weekly sketch became one of the most popular on the weekly variety series.
