Triple H Talks About Cutting Promos in the Corporate World

You could say a lot of things about Triple H, but one thing for sure is he is a master of cutting promos. No one can cut a promo as long as Triple H, as anyone who watched WWE in the early aughts well-remembers. "I-ah… am-ah… the Game-ah…" Triple H would begin, and about forty-five minutes later, you'd wake up to learn that maybe an actual match was about to start. But the Reign of Terror was just a warm-up, as Triple H would soon have to forget everything he knew about promos and begin rambling endlessly for a completely different audience: executives in corporate boardrooms.

Triple H Learns to Play the Game

In an interview with Triple H on Newsweek ahead of his 25th-anniversary Smackdown celebration tonight, The Cerebral Assassin talked about transitioning from the wrestling ring to the office.

At first I went to the office and after two days I was ready to get out because it felt like a month. And it transitioned over time and it took time to get used to that. It's a different language and communication process. Vince [McMahon] used to say all the time that you have to know your audience. So your audience is speaking in front of business people. You have to speak to business people and in a way that I wasn't necessarily used to. It wasn't like I was talking in the arena with the guys talking about the business.

Still to this day you have to know your audience. It's a tough transition and I realized when I went from the ring to the office that I was starting back at ground zero. It was something I knew nothing about it and I had to approach it the same way I started my in-ring career and learn everything I could and use every avenue I could to learn and do the best you can and hopefully you succeed at it. I tried to make that transition and be the best business man that I can and time will tell.

And hey, if executives don't want to cooperate, Triple H can always just give them the Pedigree. Be sure to tune into Smackdown on Fox tonight to celebrate Triple H's 25-year career, which is roughly the length of four of his promos.

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
