Speculator Corner: Captain America #602 – Teabagging Edition
I said that this would be a $10 book by the weekend. I was wrong.
Copies of Captain America #602, featureing an anti-tax protest labelled racists by one character, and mistakenly identified as Tea Party protesters by one of the placards they are holding due to Marvel production errors, are selling right now on eBay for up to $19.99 plus postage each. It's not even lunchtime on the West Coast.
This morning copies were happily selling for $2.99. As the news broke on FoxNews.com followed quickly by Bleeding Cool this rapidly changed to $12.50 books, then $14.99 books and now just shy of the Twenty Dollar Club.
Some eBayers are representing the book as having been pulled from the shelves – as far as I can tell, this is not the case, Marvel have simply committed to changing the offending teabagging panel from future editions, such as a second print of a trade paperback.
At the speed of current sale and demand, there should be a second printing of this book. But will there be any demand for a second printing that is teabagless?
The lesson to be learnt from this? Offend right wing faux-libertarian hordes if you want to sell your comic book.
Hey guys, did you know Chase Variant wants to give gay immigrants public health option abortions in Spanish? Just saying.
