Neil Gaiman Responds To Lucifer Protests
A group called the American Family Association's One Million Moms has decided to try and stop Fox from airing their new series Lucifer. They have started a petition citing the show as mischaracterizing Satan and mocking the bible.
Neil Gaiman, one of the creators of the character of Lucifer Morningstar along with Sam Keith and Mike Dringenberg, took to his tumblr page to respond to the group. This is the second time Gaiman has attracted the attention of One Million Moms.
Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the "Concerned Mothers of America" announced that they were boycotting SANDMAN because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book… They told us they were organising a boycott of SANDMAN, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform.
I wonder if they noticed it didn't work last time, either…
Fox's adaptation of the Vertigo/DC comic stars Tom Ellis as the title character and will debut this fall.
