Secrets Of The All-New All-Different Marvel Universe – Time Travel, Magic And Machines (Spoilers)
So where are we?
The Marvel Universe used to have the rule that when you travelled back in time, you went into a parallel universe, so your actions could never affect the present from which you came. Mark Gruenwald kept that locked down.
But these days that doesn't happen any more. Time is broken and The Ultimates lays it all at the feet of Doctor Doom. With All-New X-Men, Old Loki and Age Of Ultron as examples…
And it's all Doom's fault. The "doomlock" invented by Peter David in X-Factor to change that rule being retconned into use in all the given examples
Which is probably the best explanation you are ever going to get and another example of writer Al Ewing rewriting and resetting the rules of the All-New All-Different Marvel Universe.
While over in his Contest Of Champions, the Iso-8 that exists as a result of this new iteration of the universe and made Galactus a super sweetie, also came in handy bringing Stick back from the dead.
Magic is still broken, but it may not be as a result of the new universe. In Doctor Strange it may be down to a machine. As with the Doomlocks is all about magic and tech working together.
A bit like in Invincible Iron Man today…
Marvel has always liked to combine the two though. And while we've seen Agatha Harkness' ghost hanging around Scarlet Witch, she's also concerned with The Vision as well.
That's not going to be good for the Vision. Although where it comes to the Fantastic Four, I think Ike Perlmutter got there first.
And… is Scarlet Witch is also busy blending magic and machinery over in (spoilers) Weirdworld? She is the Grand Mechanic, right, or is that a side effect of a boilerplate mask?
Singularity remembers a place that was. How she – and others – escaped from the Battleworld is still to be revealed. If it is.
Uncanny X-Men continues to explore the nastiness caused by the Terrigen Mists, and they seem to be having an effect on Magneto's powers as well.
And as The Ultimates explores the extents of the Omniverse into the Neutral Zone, we also get a flick past The Bleed from The Authority – the comic that inspired The Ultimates in the first place….
Awwww…..
