Is It Time For A Better Diamond Box?
In one of his daily live videos, Dennis Barger of Wonderworld Comics made the case that Diamond Comic Distributors needs better boxes.
He states that over recent years, as the value of new comics and other items have risen, and publishers are more likely to run out of copies available for replacement, that damages are having more of an impact. And that retailers are getting more and more dollar damage as a result, which can lead to unsaleable product.
He specifically targets the larger "400" containers, saying that "We need to talk about getting less dollar amounts in these boxes." and advises on a system that wouldn't have comics, books and fragile items right up against the corner of such boxes.
However, it appears that other retailers are opposed to this move. The problem is right now, that this kind of move would lead to increased shipping costs, Dennis argues that this is a false saving but Diamond Comic Distributors claim a far lower damage percentage than Dennis – and a number of retailers that I have spoken to – believes. It does look like this may be a major issue at upcoming retailer Diamond summits. It certainly seems like it would be worth a discussion.
