Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – July 31st 2016 – DC Rebirth Slaughters Civil War II

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

Last week I said I couldn't remember when DC Comics had dominated this list so much before. I thought it might be different when the next issue of Civil War II shipped. It was – DC dominated even more. As each new Rebirth title launches it gets a double dip for the Rebirth issue then for the #1 issue that follows – but some titles are keeping that bump, including Flash #3 which outsold Civil War II #4 by a considerable margin, as least when you measure actual sales in these stores. But note that it is the Bat-related titles that still dominate those DC sales – and that includes Titans.

I honestly didn't expect a DC clean sweep of our store's Top 10 this week, especially since Civil War 4 shipped, but it still didn't make our top 10. It was actually 11th behind every Rebirth title on this week and even Future Quest. The big moment in Civil War issue 3 did not get the response we expected, and all the tie ins are really falling off way harsher than usual.

The usual, Walking Dead, Saga and still selling lots of Rebirth to new people every week! Lots of Harley Quinn and Suicide Squad selling to regulars and new customers. Lots of buzz around both.

Nine Rebirth titles this week… nine DC's in the top nine sales positions in our store. Civil War II made it into tenth place–but had there been a tenth Rebirth title, there would have been no Marvels at all on the list. Marvel isn't giving most readers what they want, and readers are rejecting the editorially driven character changes and the overdone events. Civil War II is selling now what a typical Avengers title sold six months ago… but those Avengers titles are now selling about half of what they sold six months ago. If Marvel's offices aren't in full crisis mode yet, then they're more out of touch than I ever imagined; they have become the old, tired, hackneyed, predictable, reader-unfriendly company in the eyes of many readers

Continued strong interest in pre-Flashpoint Superman and Batman, with increasing interest in Wonder Woman. Meanwhile, every day we field a handful of calls from readers wondering if we'd like to buy their Marvel titles from the past few years…

Another fantastic week for sales.Civil War took the top spot, but almost all the other spots were dominated by DC Comics.

Darth Vader was the new back issue mover and Justice League was the best over all mover due to the SDCC teaser.

Strong sales week. Marvel has really slipped though. People are just waiting for their latest re launch now (hopefully). Since who wants to get into a series when it is going to end? Would like to see the quality of artists improve on the various series. The shock value on Captain America Steve Rogers has worn off quickly. The title is dropping like a rock. Titans is really selling well.

DC Rebirth continues to dominate. How long? Returnability is wonderful!

Suicide Squad and Harley Quinn back issues are doing well thanks to a certain upcoming movie.

Congratulations Marvel !!! You took the top spot with Civil War and almost beat a new DC rebirth comic (Batgirl) with Captain America #3. Okay that is the good news for Marvel the bad news is that DC once again took the other 8 spots on the top ten, what will happen when Civil War is over? Customers are still not excited about any of the Marvel Shattered Now!! comics (it didn't help that there was virtually zero actual comic book news out of SDCC) In other news Rom almost made it to the top ten which is kinda neat.
