What If A Major Buffy Character Was Killed Off And No One Really Noticed?

In the most recent Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 10 comic, Buffy and the rest of the scoobies went up against vengeance demon-in-charge D'Hoffryn. And someone rather prominent died.

It's not the first time, Not too long ago, in Season 8 they killed off Giles and the internet erupted.

Before bringing him back as a Harry Potter-aged version in Season 9.

That's him. But a death in last month's Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 10 #29 has had much less on-line reaction. The series had also brought back to life a version of vengeance demon Anya/Anyanka, and ex-partner of Xander Harris. And D'Hoffryn played on that.

Was this a note of sympathy and compassion that this version of Anyanka remembered from the last?28_18 It seems not. The battle ensued and Xander tried for a heart-to-heart.28_19 And made a confession that might enrage certain fans of the Xander/Anya relationship. That they should never have been married.28_20  And you know what happens next.28_21 Leaving a pile of dust on the floor.,..28_22

That's a very dead Xander Harris.

And people do seem rather upset. Just you know, not on-line, just a few mentions… and no headlines anywhere.

Long before I ever reviewed the Buffy comics I actually verbally said aloud at one point that Xander was the only death that would lead to me dropping the series and walking away.

At this point, I have no plan to do that.

I mean, like what the actual hell??? They killed off Xander? For reals? I sincerely hope that this is one of those vengeance-doobies that can be retracted. Because OMG! Please hurry up and bring out the next issue, because this is a bit much to handle for me!

There were only six posts on the thread about it on Whedonesque for goodness sake.

That's about it. Are people blase? Or could it be that the actions of actor Nicholas Brandon – and writer of previous issues of Buffy – have affected how much people care?

But if you are looking for a get out clause, there is one. Anyanka says she made Xander into a ghost. Was that just worldplay or is she being very very literal? Because where there's a will-o'-the-wisp, there's a way….
