South Carolina's Silver City Comics Closes (UPDATE)
Silver City Comics, in Columbia, South Carolina is one of the oldest comic book sellers in the country, in existence for over sixty years. It began as a local news stand and then transformed to a gaming/comics shop in the seventies. , the store is perhaps the oldest in the entire US Southeast. And today is it's last day, with a storewide liquidation sale.
Owner Ann Hart has run the store for over 30 years with the help of her daughter Angela.
Its closing marks the third comic shop closing in Columbia, SC in the past year, following Punk Monkey Comics and Comics Apocalypse.
Citing challenges in the industry and general marketing fatigue, the owners have been helping their customers transfer their subscriptions to the other remaining shops in Columbia.
The store plans to close this with a huge liquidation sale and Halloween contest.
Thanks to Jim Shelley.
UPDATE: – Silver City has not completely closed with the Halloween event. The store is no longer going to be carrying new comics orders, but the store is NOT entirely closed and the liquidation sale will continue until the majority of their stock has been sold.
The store's hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10am-6pm. Currently, their $1 boxes are now 4 comics for $1, their recent comics ara is 75% discounted, their classic back issues are 25-30% discounted, and there are other markdowns. The store's address is 538 Knox Abbot Drive in Cayce, SC.
