Robert Kirkman Vows: No Second Printings for Oblivion Song (But Plenty of First)

In a move sure to send shockwaves throughout the comics industry and beyond, Skybound mogul and third most famous person to ever come from Kentucky Robert Kirkman has sworn to refrain from going back to press on Oblivion Song #1, the first issue of the exciting new comic from Kirkman and Lorenzo de Felici! According to a press release, once all of the first printings are gone, that will be it, so fans should order their copies as soon as possible.

"The response to this new series from the retailer community has been overwhelming so far, and it looks like this launch is shaping up to be huge," said Kirkman. "Lorenzo and I are thrilled. I know keeping a new series on the stands so new fans can get caught up when issue #2 comes out and beyond is extremely important to the life of a new series. That said, I want people to be able to get the first printing of issue #1 to add to their collection. So we're going to avoid selling out in the first place by printing enough to hopefully meet or exceed what all indications say will be a massive demand."

Kirkman isn't just spouting mindless hyperbole like most press releases do. Oblivion Song has been a hit with retailers, with even its insane $200 Collector's Edition continuing to top the charts. Part of that has to do with discounts, and the intense promotional campaign supporting the book. Retailers were even sent an advance copy of the first trade paperback to read for themselves ahead of the first issue's release. Part of it is due to everyone hoping to get their hands on the next Walking Dead #1.

And now, if they do get their hands Oblivion Song #1, they can rest assured it's an official first printing, though its collector's value may be lessened by the sheer volume of copies, since the press release also promises a "substantial" overprint." That's the chance you'll have to take though, unless you want to regret having to buy this thing later on eBay. Ah, the hazards of comic book speculating.

Here's what Oblivion Song is all about:

A decade ago, 300,000 citizens of Philadelphia were suddenly lost in Oblivion. The government made every attempt to recover them, but after many years, they gave up. Nathan Cole…won't. He makes daily trips, risking his life to try and rescue those still living in the apocalyptic hellscape of Oblivion. But maybe…Nathan is looking for something else? Why can't he resist the siren call of the Oblivion Song?

The first issue hits stores on March 7th.

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
