The Store That Gave Its Customers Their Comics For Free During Trump Shutdown
Last week, while the US government shutdown was still ongoing with no end in sight, owner of Cloud City Comics, Games And Toys of Pennsylvania posted the following message Facebook page,
I don't get political on the store page at all, so don't read too much into this. Please also be respectful that we are all different and some people will disagree with your personal position… no need to blow up the comments with finger pointing.
The government shut down is now at 31 days. That's insane. I can't imagine how affected employees are dealing with it, especially with no end in sight.
Cloud City has a long history of trying to do the right thing. That being said, if you are a Government employee that is currently without pay we would like to offer the following to you:
1. If you are a comic subscriber, come and get your books. They are free.
2. If you play in any of our scheduled events normally, show up and play. It's free.
3. If you are hungry, and need a meal, show up – We will cover it. Same goes if you just need somewhere to go to pass some time.
We are all in this together.
An individual posted it to Reddit's Magic The Gathering subreddit – where it blew up somewhat. But Aaron the manager wasn't looking for glory, or for added sales from people asking how they could shop with them from a distance. He added,
I don't want this to come off as ungrateful, but I don't really want to be rewarded for trying to look out for other people.
We're a small store, generally speaking, and don't really have a huge web presence for sales.
Support your LGS if you can, I'm sure they would appreciate it. If you don't have one, we are happy to ship.
