Avengers: Endgame is Going to Make Actor's Agents and Studio Executives Lives a Lot Harder (Spoilers)
There is a bit of a spoiler for Avengers: Endgame here – not so much the film itself but the credit scenes. As we all know, the placement of an actor face and name is often contractual, a deal done between studio and agent, which is why we often get such dull group shot posters. It's not designed by an art director or even a committee but by contractual obligation. And so it is with big studio movies, the placement of credit, the size and duration on screen and relation to other credits, as well as qualifying words such as 'with' and 'featuring' are all decided long before the film starts shooting.
It's this kind of complexity that made the opening credits of Deadpool so remarkable, no names, just side comments, often insulting ones. The conversations and discussions with agents over that must have taken as long as it took to shoot the movie.
Well, Avengers: Endgame must have made it harder. Because not only did the main Avengers actors get a big solo screen credit to themselves each at the end, it was accompanied with an animation of their signature. They literally signed the movie., with a little visual of themselves and of their autograph.
Well.
How many A-List actors seeing that are now demanding such a credit for their movies? How many agents are demanding the same for their clients from the studios? Will we have a rash of signed movie credits now? Or will people see sense?
No, this is Hollywood. When have people ever done that?
