Tears and Surprises: Everything We Learned From The "Arrow" [Final!] SDCC Panel
This feels like the end of an era. The CW's flagship Arrow, which launched The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and made space for Supergirl, Black Lightning, and likely the plethora of shows we're now getting like Titans and Swamp Thing, had its final San Diego Comic-Con panel ever as it heads into a final 8th season. Why go out on top? According to Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim:
And that party is indeed still going, as they premiered a giant sizzle reel that presented almost every iconic moment from the last seven years.
We also got some major casting news, as it was revealed that Charlie Barnett (Chicago Fire, Russian Doll) will be playing the grown-up version of J.J. Diggle, who so far has only been namechecked in the flash-forward portions of Arrow's last season. Guggenheim teased during the panel that fans would be surprised with whose costume he is wearing.
Speaking of costumes, Guggenheim "ran out time" on the panel, but had concept art of several key costumes that he shared on Twitter.
That's pretty amazing, but why did they run out of time? Well, first, they were too busy crying together as a cast at the enormity of this moment. There was a huge reaction from both the cast and the crowd as everyone mentioned how much Stephen Amell meant to them. And then. . . leave it to a certain Super-man to crash the panel and give fans a taste of his on-screen appearance in Crisis later this year.
Perhaps the biggest thing that was revealed at the panel was not any specific casting or costume or plot point, but really how much everyone in this cast and crew cares about each other and how emotional they are about it all coming to a close.
Arrow returns for its final 10-episode season on Tuesday, October 15.
