"Star Trek: Picard" – CBS Interested In Return Of Voyager's Holographic Doctor, Robert Picardo

Star Trek: Voyager fans, rejoice! The Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH) could be headed to Star Trek: Picard. Robert Picardo, who played the EMH and Dr. Zimmerman on Star Trek: Voyager is in talks to join the newest Trek series. In an interview with The Trekkie Girls at London Film and Comic Con, Picardo discussed his love for his EMH character and his excitement at the prospect of appearing on Season 2 of Picard. 

"I am pleased that they (CBS) have expressed interest in me. They have reached out to my agent about next season. So I'm looking forward to seeing what it is. As you know I play two characters, primarily the Doctor but also Lewis Zimmerman."

The EMH started out as a comically literal, dry, boring computer program. However, over the course of seven seasons on Star Trek: Voyager, the hologram slowly transformed into a uniquely "human" character. In the interview, Picardo discussed his special on-screen friendship with Seven-Of-Nine, played by Jeri Ryan. As two outsiders, and non-humans, they understood each other. Picardo and Ryan also had great on-screen chemistry. Given that CBS has already announced Ryan's Season 1 appearance on Picard, maybe we will get to see EMH and Seven banter in Season 2.

If the role pans out, Picardo would be the first named guest star for Picard's second season. This is also our first indication that CBS is already planning for Season 2 of the yet-to-premier Patrick Stewart vehicle. Picardo would join an elite crew of Trek alums who have already announced guest appearances. Brent Spiner, Jeri Ryan, Jonathan Frakes, and Marina Sirtis will all be reprising their Star Trek roles in Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard.

Alongside Stewart, Star Trek: Picard also stars Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd, Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway and Evan Evagora.

The series is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers and Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) serves as co-executive producer and Kirsten Beyer as supervising producer. Hanelle Culpepper directed the first two episodes of the series.

STAR TREK: PICARD will air exclusively on CBS All Access in the United States and will be distributed concurrently internationally by CBS Studios International on Amazon Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories and in Canada on Bell Media's cable networks, Space and Z, and OTT service Crave.
