Many New Games Workshop Releases Unveiled at NOVA Open

On Wednesday, the NOVA Open, a large wargaming convention and tournament site, began, renewing old grudges and starting bitter new rivalries. It was absolutely rocked to its core, however, when Games Workshop unveiled a number of new model releases. The releases cover a great multitude of Games Workshop's major titles, with a few other surprises as well.

Warhammer 40,000's "Psychic Awakening" Campaign

To begin, Warhammer 40,000 has gotten a major event in the form of the "Psychic Awakening" campaign series. In this release, their rulebook codexes will get new rules to supplement this campaign. What's more, all of the armies within the bounds of the 40K universe will be involved in this massive undertaking.

On top of all that, there will be a good many models released alongside this campaign, which, alongside the fact that all of the 40K armies are in this campaign, implies that each army will have at least one release in conjunction. At the least, the Space Marina model known as Shrike will be released prior to the start of the campaign.

According to the Warhammer Community website, Shrike is the "Son of Corax" and an ideal leader for a Space Marine Raven Guard army.

Perhaps the biggest reveal at the NOVA Open was the unveiling of the Sisters of Battle, a much-renowned chapter of Space Marine models and much-anticipated release for the last two years. Games Workshop, in their message to the Warhammer Community site, states:

After waiting for so long, you all deserved something very special, and that's what this Sisters of Battle Army Set delivers. This packed box kicks off your Adepta Sororitas force in style. Including a swathe of stunning new plastic models and a limited edition codex, this one is dedicated to you die-hard Sisters of Battle fans as a reward for your unwavering faith.

The models look stunning. The contents of the Sisters of Battle box includes models like this:

Age of Sigmar's New "Ossiarch Bonereapers" Army

Seemingly modeled after the warlords and emperors of ancient Mesopotamia, Warhammer: Age of Sigmar has revealed an all-new army under the Grand Alliance of Death. The Ossiarch Bonereapers are alleged to be unlike the ethereal spirits of the Nighthaunt or the shambling zombies of the Flesh-Eater Courts. Rather, the Bonereapers are cold and calculating, and very much sentient.

They seem to be the de-facto skeleton army of the Death Grand Alliance, whereas the Flesh-Eater Courts are your zombies and ghouls while the Nighthaunt is your typical Spirit and Ghost army. Leading the Ossiarch Bonereapers is a character who is claimed by the Warhammer Community site to be "perhaps the greatest military strategist (living, or dead) the Mortal Realms have ever known," Katakros, Mortarch of the Necropolis.

Katakros was a general and master strategist in life but was given a new lease on life (unlife?) through the power of an ancient and evil tome. He now serves the powerful lich Nagash in his attempts to rule over the Mortal Realms.

Other Releases

With all of the hype about Warhammer 40,000 and Age of Sigmar, it stands to reason that many other games got a fair share of new models. Warcry got a new expansion book reveal in "Monsters & Mercenaries". The Middle-Earth miniature game got models of Saruman the White and Wormtongue, both characters who have been highly awaited by players of that game. Even Necromunda got a teaser of new things to come. With all of these new things on the horizon, what else could be in store for these and other games?
