New Domestic and International Character Posters for "Jumanji: The Next Level"
Around this time two years ago people were making fun of the fact that we were getting a year after the fact sequel to Jumanji. No one really thought the movie was going to be any good and certainly, no one thought it would go on to be a huge hit. That turned out not to be the case; the general public really enjoyed the movie and it did okay critically. At the box office, it went on to break $900 million at the worldwide box office which was a surprise to pretty much everyone including Sony. So it wasn't a surprise that a sequel was quickly greenlit and now two years later Jumanji: The Next Level is looking like it could be a serious contender in the December box office race.
Sony is doing a good job of making sure that the movie is being marketed but having Dwayne Johnson on your cast means he does half your marketing for you on his Instagram. Now that we're a little more than a month away from the official release Sony has kicked it up a notch. The official Twitter for the movie shared a bunch of character posters today while the good folks over at IMP Awards got their hands on a bunch of international character posters as well.
If 2019 has taught us anything it's that being a sequel doesn't mean you're guaranteed box office glory and this movie could easily fall into that trap as well. Right now it looks like more of the same from the first movie so fans of the first Jumanji sequel will walk away happy if nothing else.
A team of friends return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own but discover that nothing is as they expect. The players need to brave parts unknown, from arid deserts to snowy mountains, in order to escape the world's most dangerous game.
Jumanji: The Next Level, directed by Jake Kasdan, stars Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Danny DeVito, Darin Ferraro, and Sal Longobardo. It will be released on December 13th, 2019.
