Now Once & Future #1 Gets an Eighth Printing as Every Issue Goes Back to Print
Last week, we told you that Boom Studios was kicking off the new year by planning to announce that Batman's James Tynion IV's and Werther Dell'Edera's Something is Killing The Children – the biggest creator-owned series launch in the company's history – was getting even bigger with reprints of every issue.
But it looks like that's not the only Boom series drawing in loads of new readers over the holiday break. I'm hearing that every issue of Doctor Kieron Gillen & Dan Mora's Once & Future have sold out at Diamond and I would expect Boom to to send all these issues back to print, with no allocation or shortages.
That's right, The Kieron Gillen Wars are back!
That means we'll be looking at an 8th printing for Once & Future #1, a 4th printing for #2, a 3rd printing for #3 and a 2nd printing for #4. How long till Boom's rival Image Comics announces new printing for their Kieron Gillen series Die, as the two top creator-owned comics companies continue their cold war?
Once & Future has been selling at or around an impressive 20k units from issue #2 onwards much like Something is Killing The Children (thanks to interested Batman readers) – and those two series have been powering Boom's explosive rise in the direct market over 2019 and now into 2020. That also means O&F joins Something is Killing The Children on the track to move from Boom 50K Club to its all-new 60K Club.
There may soon be a new addition to Image Comics' 80K Club, as Image debuts one of their most anticipated series in years Decorum, from Jonathan Hickman and Mike Hawthorne in March. But in one-week orders close for Si Spurrier & Christian Wildgoose's Alienated #1, Boom's first big creator-owned launch of 2020 that comes with some strong advance buzz and looks likely to continue the company's trend of multiple sell outs before its February 12 on-sale. 50 or 60K?
Here's a look at Once & Future #1's seventh printing from last year…
