BC Mag #5: The Haunting Of Hill's House
Bleeding Cool Magazine article by Gavin Lees
Haunted houses have long cast a chilling shadow over Gothic fiction. From The Castle of Otranto, through Poe's House of Usher, to the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King's The Shining, they have been the imposing, crumbling manifestations of our darkest, most repressed fears. To that pantheon, we can add Keyhouse — the towering mansion at the heart of writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez's Locke & Key series. Winner of an Eisner award and a British Fantasy Award, the comics have become a landmark in the horror genre.
In August, Locke & Key enters its endgame with the final, two-part story arc, "Alpha." It's increasingly rare for a smart, inventive series like this to stay the distance, but Locke & Key has managed not only to reach a mature conclusion, but also to build its audience over the course of its run. Expectations are understandably high for a satisfying end to the tale, and the creators are determined not to disappoint. Gavin Lees spoke to its co-creator, Rodriguez, about the magic behind the scenes and what we can expect from these final issues.
