The Back-Order List 6/3/2020: Lots of DC with Catwoman 80th #1 Leading

Every week your Local Comic Book Shop, hopefully, gets in a weekly assortment of comics, trades, posters, action figures, and other goodies from Diamond.  Now some of these goodies sell out fast from your LCBS, so Tuesday and Wednesday LCBS retailers get on the phone (more often the computer) and let Diamond know they need more.  Or sometimes they go to unpack those Diamond boxes and find items missing, or too damaged to sell (it does happen), retailers have to let Diamond know. However, the phrase no retailer likes to hear when they go to report those shortages, damages or reorders is: "Sorry that item is on back-order," which means there are no more copies to send out from the Diamond warehouse.

The List Is More than Just DC Comics

After a lull in new product being in the LCBS, last month was a weird one, and this month isn't looking it is going to be any kind of normal either.  Now the Back Order List was compiled before DC made its big news, but the lack of normal this week came from another week of little or no Marvel product. Image, Boom, IDW, Dark Horse, and others are slowly getting back up there, with more books coming out.  Apparently the main thing DC's finding other "distributors" did was help DC get ramped up before everyone else.  So this week was a large DC week, even by comparison to weeks before the pandemic shutdown, especially since Marvel sent out no new monthly books this week, just trades. DC dominated again this week, but we'll see how long this lasts.

Other companies did have some Back Order entries though on the list. Boom's Buffy Every Generation #1 Cover B is on the Back Order List, with Scout Comics also seeing North Bend #2 no longer available.

But DC Comics Did Dominate This Week

So as DC moves away from Diamond, this week's Back Order List makes more sense as 17 comics go on the Back Order List for DC.  Most are variant covers that retailers could order as many as they wanted when the original order was due, but when DC canceled all those orders the variant covers for many of these books don't seem to be at the levels of availability they normally are, or DC isn't allowing Diamond full access to what has been printed, maybe? Unknown for now, but these comics no longer have copies available from Diamond for LCBS to reorder or replace damages or shortages with.

So Action Comics #1022, both covers, Aquaman #59 Variant Cover, Batman Superman #9 Variant Cover, Detective Comics #1022 Variant Cover, Flash #754, both covers, Shazam #12 Variant Cover, and Wonder Woman #756, both covers.

Especially the Catwoman 80th Anniversary Special #1

The big winner though was all the variant covers that are long gone for DC for the Catwoman 80th Anniversary Special #1, with the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s Variant Covers, and the Blank Variant Cover all on Back Order. Buyers were apparently hungry for a large read as that many copies and covers with a $9.99 price tag no longer around for Diamond to send.

So for those able to still go to your LCBS and see any of these "back-order titles" grab them if you want them because Diamond won't likely be sending any more copies of these books. Though if your LCBS has set up new accounts with Lunar Distribution or UCS Comic Distributors to get DC books they might get the DC comics back in stock, maybe?
