Jack Kirby, The Prisoner And Tank Girl – Titan Comics At MCM London Comic Con

Ex-Bleeding Cooler Chris Thompson was taking the Titan Comics presentation at MCM London Comic Con and had a few things to show off… starting with a Jack Kirby FOC cover for Fighting American #3… and with a challenge to Marve…. "No Secret No Empires, just an all american hero who is not a Nazi. He wanted to ask Marvel for comment.. but they're not here."He talked about discovering Fighting American through Rob Liefeld in the nineties, leading him to the originals, and how this series acts as a continuation of Simon and Kirby's work.

And more Kirby covers to come as standard variants rather than timed for FOC…

There was a new project, Alisk by Helge Vogt announced which was described as Emily The Strange Meets The Graveyard Book, with a ghost of a young girl who doesn't know how she died, living in a graveyard with the other ghosts. With a cover by Junko Mizuno of Ravina The Witch.

And part of their Statix Imprint that translated works from other countries in periodical format, for the US and UK audience to discover, a line which Chris Thompson has taken personal responsibility for.

So much so that he is the actual logo for the line.

And no, this is not a joke.

He also talked about finding more familiar and big name creators that were sympatico with the comics in question, so as to draw the right audience to them.

So Brandon Graham and Walt Simonson will be followed by Francesco Francavilla, James Stokoe and Roman Dirge…

Then there was The Prisoner by Pete Milligan and Colin Lorimer- with a cover by someone that Chris Thompson definitely didn't say was Michael Allred. But is.

Man, that's pretty.

There will be a new logo for 30^th Anniversary for Tank Girl on Oct 6th, dubbed Tank Girl Day, which will be as close to the original release date of Deadline Magazine #1 as possible.

Yes, there will be lots of Tank Girl.

As for Doctor Who, Chris read out a specially prepared statement, which I can but paraphrase, that Titan Comics are taking a deliberate short break after the current run. They will be back in May 2018 with new number ones, will be keeping the line tight with fewer titles, big name creators and shipping on time. Honest. They want fans to be able to afford the whole line, while following Doctors of all eras, and emphasising the consistent shipping, increased marketing, and a revitalised line, creatig a back stock, working with retailers for years to come. Or something like that.

You know, they have a 13th Doctor coming back around then….

Chris was pushing the Beatles: Yellow Submarine adpatation summer next year for the film's 50^th anniversary. by Bill Morrison of The Simpsons.

He got very excited about Babylon Berlin, the German noir Netflix show based on.

There's the Movie Edition of Death Of Stalin in time for the DVD release in February.

While Nury & Robin will follow that with the English translation of Death To The Tsar. We are to expect a story told from both sides, that of the Tsar Someone trying to assassinate the Tsar, and the other side. Two sides of the same story.
