Adam West Paints Batman

He rose to fame by playing Batman in the legendary 60s TV series, and in recent times he has come to represent a sort of old school geek culture cool. But until now, few people knew that he also created Batman art. A gallery showing of his Batman paintings and drawings is opening tonight at a Beverly Hills art gallery.

"The pictures are pretty raw and untamed, just like me," West said as he prepared for the exhibit, which will run for a month at the David W. Streets Beverly Hills Art Gallery.

West is a "cultural pop art expressionist," said gallery owner Streets.

"This is a huge genre coming out of pop culture, American television history and culture," Streets said. "It's really a tremendous art form and really fun."

"In a very real sense, I represent pop culture in an iconic way," West said. "It's been very good to me, so anything I can do to help the fans to tumble along — it's good."

But this is not actually the first time his expressionist Batman artwork has been publicly seen. West has sold a few of his pieces at auction over the years, including the paintings below depicting Batman meeting the Green Hornet, and Batman tv villains Egghead and Bookworm.
