The Artwork Of A Superhero – The Alex Ross Exhibit At The Museum Of Shenandoah Valley

On Saturday, April 1, myself and my motley crew of comic book geeks made a two hour trek down to see one of comic books greatest artists, Alex Ross.

The Museum of Shenandoah Valley is nestled away in picturesque Winchester, VA is a charming museum that also includes the Glen Burnie House and Glen Burnie Gardens. I only had time to walk through the museum, which is perfect for families with small children. The Alex Ross exhibit was amazing; sadly we were not allowed to take photos!

Alex Ross Museum Visit

Word of mouth was they museum (and reps of Ross himself) expected a small 200-300 person turnout. Roughly 1,000 people showed up. People from all over MD, PA and VA came, but I also met two people who had driven eight hours up from South Carolina! My team and I got there at 11:00, and the museum was packed, with two separate lines. One was a priority line (for people who purchased an Alex Ross item in the gift shop) and one for everyone who didn't. The gift shop had some limited edition prints ranging from $50-150, and they all sold out. In fact almost everything with his art on it sold out by 2pm. The museum advertised that he would only be signing from 12:30-3:30, but this was extended for all who had been waiting all day.

Overall I'd say the signing was a success. Ross himself was pleasant and in good spirits, which is always a plus! If you're able to visit the Museum of Shenandoah Valley I urge you too. The exhibition will run until May 14.
