Angoulême Names Claire Wendling, Hermann And Alan Moore On Grand Prix Shortlist
The Angoulême Grand Prix 2016 votes are in after the judges withdrew the original long nomination, after receiving criticism of having an all male list of thirty names.
A winner will be announced on Wed Jan 27th at 6.30pm by 2015 Grand Prix winner, Otomo Katsuhiro. The three nominations are Hermann, Alan Moore and Claire Wendling.
And, yes, one of the three is a woman. Clare Wendling, who won the Alph'Art Avenir Prize at Angoulême in 1989. She worked on the anthologies Children Of The Nile and Entrechats, before creating the series The Lights Of Amalou before working in film and gaming. She is next year's Guest of Honour at the 75th Worldcon.
Alan Moore, very familiar to Bleeding Cool readers, has previously refused the award when he was nominated before and little is likely to have changed.
Hermann, creator of the long running Jeremiah comic book, is a long standing creator often passed over for his award.
Should be an interesting one.
