Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – September 3rd, 2017 – "There Is Something Wrong In The Marvelverse"

This is the Top 10 Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

And this week, it's All Star Batman that takes the top, pipping Secret Empire's finale. Note strong performances from Saga and Black Panther too. X-Men Blue is justifying ResurreXion on its own — and is this the first time Red Hood has got into the top 10?

  1. All Star Batman #13
  2. Secret Empire #10
  3. Justice League Of America #13
  4. Saga #46
  5. Black Panther #17
  6. X-Men Blue #10
  7. Mace Windu #1
  8. Star Wars #35
  9. Red Hood And The Outlaws Annual
  10. Wonder Woman #29

Thanks to the following stores…

…who had this to say:

"All-Star Batman and the Darkseid Special were the big sellers this week followed closely by Saga. Dark Nights Metal was our fourth best seller (on it's FOURTH week) beating out every Marvel book including the final issue (but somehow not the end) of Secret Empire. X-Men Blue was the only other Marvel book in the Top Ten. Animosity was at it's usual spot in #10. It's one of those books with a small but devoted fan base that I wish more indie books had."

"That little Indie film Star Wars has been getting a lot of hype this weekend. I think that series is going to go somewhere and so will the comics. Just a hunch. So there were several titles in the top ten that would not have normally been there but in a week where nothing comes out sometimes showing up is enough."

"The Secret Empire finale didn't even come close to beating Saga #46 for our bestseller this week. That might say more about our store (we're more indie-heavy) than the quality of the series, but it was a really big gap in terms of sales. So, take that however you want."

"A rather unexciting release week gives us a top ten full Marvel/DC mainstays and nothing particularly surprising. Secret Empire mercifully comes to a close, and it's final issue tops our list. The rest of the list is, as I stated previously, a grab bag of the usual suspects – so much so that we had a five-way tie for last place."

"I do find it worth noting that Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Panther remains one of our strongest selling superhero books well over a year into its run."

"Weak sales week. Hopefully due to just people getting into going back to school. Marvel got 5 of the top ten slots this week. DC really didn't put out much this week."

"Even with an almost-skip-week for DC, they STILL took three of the top four spots in our store (Saga was the 4th), pushing Marvel's Secret Empire #10 back to 5th place. When the grand finale of a Marvel event can't place higher than fifth on a week like this, there is something wrong in the Marvelverse… and it appears that the whole Secret Empire/Generations gestalt isn't enough to turn it around. (Speaking of Generations, the Hawkeye/Hawkeye book not only failed to crack our top ten, it failed to crack our top twenty-five! Our readers consider these books to be irrelevant, and that's ANOTHER bad sign for Marvel. THey really need to re-evaluate their retailer-and-reader-unfriendly lenticular cash grab and make these books open order so that retailers can afford to make one last concerted effort get capture readers for Marvel before it's too late!"

"Typical slow 5th Wednesday of the month, allowed some books that never hit the top 10 to take a visit as customers did not have a lot of product to choose from.  Still, the 5th Wednesday months are a nice break for everyones weekly budget and give smaller books a chance to be noticed!"

"We recently sold a variant cover for the original Geoff Johns Flash Rebirth #1. With his upcoming appearance in Justice League, and his still pretty popular TV show, I'm a little surprised it took us this long to actually sell the issue."
