Bleeding Cool loves to cover Webtoon Entertainment – well, they are the largest comic book publisher of all. Webtoon claims over 85 million readers around the world, is headquartered in Korea with an entertainment division in Los Angeles and is now under the umbrella of Korean company Naver. And they have been making some changes regarding those in charge.
David J. Lee is now the new CFO chief financial officer, and COO chief operating officer of Webtoon Entertainment. He is the first person to hold both roles, and he will be in charge of the global corporate, financial, and operations teams for Webtoon, Wattpad, and Wattpad Webtoon Studios. He will report directly to Webtoon founder and CEO chief executive officer Junkoo Kim, who is also the son of Naver's founder and chairman Lee Hae-jin. Which always comes in handy.
Lee was previously the CFO and COO of Impossible Foods, the company that made the plant-based Impossible Burger. Before that, he was the CFO of Zynga, the video game developer behind FarmVille and Words with Friends. He also had leadership roles at Del Monte Foods and Best Buy, and worked as a strategy consultant at McKinsey. So, he knowns money.
Yongsoo Kim is the new CSO chief strategy officer of Webtoon Entertainment. He will oversee the global strategic investments, partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions for the company and will also report to Junkoo Kim.
Yongsoo Kim joined Webtoon in 2022 as the head of strategy. He has a background in private equity and venture capital, having worked as a principal at KKR, one of the largest investment firms in the world. He was also part of the founding team of Tesla Korea, and an engagement manager at McKinsey.
And now both heading up Webtoon…
