DC continues the free comic program to promote what they are calling DC Essential stories. Last week it was the first issue of Batman: Hush by Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee. This week they go to the caped crusaders archenemy with The Joker #1 by Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo.
The Joker has been mysteriously released from Arkham Asylum, and he's not too happy about what's happened to his town while he's been away. What follows is a harrowing night of revenge, murder and manic crime, as he brutally takes back his stolen assets from the Penguin, Riddler, Two-Face, Killer Croc, and, of course, the Batman.
Brian Azzarello brings all the visceral intensity and criminal insight to JOKER that has made his Vertigo graphic novel series 100 BULLETS one of the most critically acclaimed and award-winning comic series of this generation. With gorgeous illustrations by one of the industry's very best in Lee Bermejo, Batman's greatest foe takes center stage in this true crime noir novel– a harrowing journey into a city of rain-soaked streets, dirty sheets and nothing but bad choices.
