The Deathstroke #33 Cover That Lies to You
Today sees the publication of Deathstroke #33 by Priest, Ed Benes, Richard Friend, and Dinei Ribeiro. Part of Deathstroke vs. Batman — with this on the cover.
There has been plenty of retailer commentary on Batman #50, with class-action lawsuits against DC Comics being suggested over misleading advertising, leading DC to make some initial changes to promotion policy.
Deathstroke #33 also out today is a comic that also promises much, but has its own Poison Ivy-style apologia to make sure that no one mixes up this paternity-of-Damian-Wayne storyline with the current Batwedding stories in all the other Batman comic books.
The trouble is… not only does this scene not appear in this comic, but neither does Batman. At all. He's on the cover, he's on the title of the comic, he has Damian Wayne talking to him, but… is not in the comic one iota.
The closest element of the cover occurs in this scene which has Damian Wayne using a very different tone.
Also, it has a different creative team to that solicited — but at least they have the correct details on the cover. If not on the solicitation.
So even if the Batman presence/absence doesn't make the comic book returnable, changing the creative team without informing retailers means that it will be…
