Denver Comic Con '15: Pop Culture Classroom Is Why You Should Be Bringing Your Kids To Comic Con
Nathan Becker writes from Denver Comic Con 2015,
As a parent of three kids under 5 years old, I'm exhausted. ..all the time. So going to a Comic Con with 2 boys who have the energy of Tasmanian devils and the endurance of marathon runners makes most Cons an unattainable dream.
The Denver Comic Con, however, changed the game and blew my mind. Parents take heed; Denver Comic Con has a 9,000 square foot area designed just for kids called the Pop Culture Classroom.
The PCC's mission is to teach kids literacy through pop culture and the power of self-expression. In their massive area, they have a PCC Laboratory and an 8-Bit Lounge where kids can create and design their own capes and masks, get their face painted and build everything from animals to catapults using a variety of materials.
The PCC also provides 300+ hours of workshops and panel discussions. During my visit there were 50 kids learning about the solar system. Finally, the PCC provides EDGE Programming, a combined gaming and technology "Maker Space" with hands-on demonstrations and exhibits. The bottom line is that the Denver Comic Con and the PCC provide comprehensive entertainment and education for kids and parents, eliminating your and my excuses for staying away. Go enjoy yourself and tire out the kids with good ol' comic book fun. Then get yourself something cool from one of the hundreds of exhibits/artists and thank me later, if either of us parents are up past 8.
