Night Thrasher is getting a new comic book series from Marvel Comics from J Holtham and Nelson Daniel in February. Writer of the '90s New Warriors ongoing series in which Night Thrasher first featured Fabian Nicieza had a little something to say about the marketing of the new comic. And a certain phrase within.
Fabian Nicieza posted to TwitterX, "Can I ask @Marvel a question? As former advertising mgr who made your house ads — WHAT THE #$@% IS THAT COPY LINE SUPPOSED TO MEAN? You profit EVERY DAY from work done in the 90s. The character is wearing almost exactly what he wore in his original series IN THE 90s. Do better." Adding in response to comments, "I have no clue what the content of the comic is. The whining is JUST about the advertising approach. It means absolutely nothing and says less about the book/character. It's a bad copy line."
He also added, in response to generalities about the decade in question, "It's so convenient to define publishing programs by decade. Wow, those 70s were all about blowing deadlines and running reprints. Wow, those 00's were about decompressed stories that spun wheels for issues before rushing the ending. Wow, those 20's were about woke blah blah blah"
Indeed, Fabian Nicieza used to work as an advertising manager at Marvel, as well as writing New Warriors, Psi-Force, X-Men, X-Force, Cable And Deadpool, Thunderbolts, Nomad and also co-created Deadpool, Domino and Shatterstar along the way. He would become senior vice-president and editor-in-chief of Valiant/Acclaim Entertainment, before returning to write Marvel and DC work freelance. He also wrote the DVD films Hot Wheels World Race and The Black Belt Club and created and executive produced Superhero Kindergarten with Stan Lee. He also recently released the novels Suburban Dicks and its sequel, The Self-Made Widow.
So, you know, he's been around. He knows his decades. Watch him tag team on this one with Rob Liefeld…
