Faith: Hollywood And Vine – 24 Trades Of Christmas

Faith Herbert is a psionically gifted psiot discovered by the Harbinger Foundation and became part of a super team as Zephyr. But the team has disbanded, she has broken up with her boyfriend Torque and has moved to L.A. to follow her dream of being a reporter and helping people. But she ends up writing blog posts for a website called Zipline in a mild-mannered disguise as Summer Smith. It's not quite the life she was looking for, but at least she's in control of it and she's starting up a relationship with Obadiah Archer.
The story takes Faith from stopping two-bit crooks and bank robbers to dealing with an alien conspiracy and invasion. It's a fun, fast-paced story that plays with the typical comic tropes and shows us how comic book heroes don't have to be cookie cutter. The switch between Portela and Sauvage on art works well to delineate between the real world and Faith's fantasy world. And what's better than taking on aliens on your first date… with your ex-boyfriend being mind-controlled?
Faith is a very good comic that sends a positive message. This would be a good gift for any comic fan, but also for those who are tired of the stereotypical books on the shelves. Wonder Woman is a great character and fun to read, but not every female hero needs to look like an Amazon or a cat burglar in a skin-tight leather outfit. Comics are supposed to be an escape. A place to foster imagination where anything is possible. Faith: Hollywood and Vine is that place.
