Fake Mike Mignola Sketches Sell for Hundreds Of Dollars on eBay
Mike Mignola is the creator of the Hellboy character, and his wide, wonderful world, and has been a comic book writer and artist for decades. His work is in demand, and he doesn't sell a lot of original artwork. So when someone pops up on eBay selling Mike's sketches, they can fetch a pretty penny. This piece sold for $610 on June 2nd after 23 bids.
It also managed to sell on May 30th for $511. He also sold another series of sketches through May purporting to be by Mike Mignola from between $200 and $300.
He has also sold these pieces purporting to be by John Romita Sr…
…by Michael Turner…
…and by Stan Lee.
Though that last one looks like it was meant to be by John Romita Jr and someone changed their mind. And there are lots and lots and lots of successful sales of uncertified signed copies of comics by Stan Lee. Oh and he's also selling gold jewellery. I can't speak to the veracity of any of them, of course. But Mike Mignola can.
He's been reporting the fakes, had them taken down and now the seller has no items listed. Of course, they could always pop up elsewhere. So, as ever, buyer beware.
