Joe Jusko Shares His Process for the Batman #50 Retailer Variant Cover
Have you seen these television commercials for Facebook as they try to apologize for allowing millions of people's personal data to be released to companies without permission? They talk about connecting to friends and family, etc… but if they wanted to point out some amazing things on Facebook, I submit the work-in-progress reports by legendary comic artist and painter Joe Jusko. His current project is a retailer exclusive cover for Batman Vol. 3 #50, which will feature the marriage of Batman and Catwoman. The cover is an exclusive for Midtown Comics, which can be pre-ordered here.
Jusko shared his original pencil work for the design then multiple posts showing his progress over what appears to be six days worth of work. It's hard to tell from the initial drawing that Selina Kyle is in her wedding dress and laying on a floor with a cat-head-shaped rug. There are bats and cats around her along with her goggles and her bouquet. The detail work on the dress is amazing, mixing the look and sheen of the purple satin/silk with the black lace. You can see in the progress images how much work Jusko put into the folds of the skirt even knowing that the lace would cover up a decent part of it.
For more details, check out Jusko's page as he moves on to a Wolverine piece for the Gijon program cover.
