Marvel Expands the "Gamerverse" With Another Spider-Man Series

In all the hubbub following the announcement that Jonathan Hickman was planning to cancel and relaunch the entire X-Men line, Marvel also announced a new series starring Marvel's Spider-Man. No, not Marvel Comics' Spider-Man. This is the video game version. Following up on Marvel's Spider-Man: City at War in August, Marvel will launch another comic book based on the Spider-Man videogame, which is itself, of course, based on the comic books.

"Mmmmmffff," Marvel Vice President of Sales David Gabriel reportedly said of the series, unable to speak clearly because he had transformed into a snake and was swallowing his own tail.

In any case, Dennis Hopeless will write the series, and no, we're not calling him by his ridiculous new pseudonym, Dennis "Hallum." Come on. That doesn't even sound like a real name. Emilio Laiso will be the artist. Check out the description below from Marvel.com.

Dennis "Hopeless" Hallum continues the saga of the spectacular Spider-Man with an all-new story set in the Gamerverse! How and why did Peter Parker build the armored Velocity Suit seen in the Marvel's Spider-Man video game? Find out here!

After the events of CITY AT WAR, Spidey continues to balance his colliding worlds as he attempts to protect New York City against Super Villains like Swarm, while reporter Mary Jane Watson delves deep into an investigation with legendary Daily Bugle journalist Ben Urich. Learn the never-before-told backstory behind the Velocity Suit as unexplainable occurrences bedevil the city and our heroes come face-to-face with…a poltergeist?!

Illustrated by Emilio Laiso with eye-popping covers by the inimitable Skan, you won't want to miss a panel of the first all-original story following up the worldwide hit video game!
