Mike Cotton Resigns From Wizard

Mike Cotton Resigns From WizardMike Cotton, Co-Chief Pop Culture Editor of Wizard World, but better known as Editor-In-Chief of the now extinct Wizard Magazine, has resigned from the company after eleven years service. Working out his notice, his last day was Friday.

An hour ago he tweeted;

After 11 years and roughly 11,00 beers, I've left Wizard to pursue new opportunities. (And more beer.) Thank you to everyone who made the last dozen years amazing, exciting and creative. I owe you all some (more) beer.

Cotton had been cheerleading the transition from print to digital publication at Wizard but with it's ninth edition, he's decided that's enough. And he has other projects yet to announce.

Cotton told Bleeding Cool;

"Being the editorial voice of the iconic WIZARD Magazine has been a dream and a privilege. It was a major personal and professional accomplishment, and it's given me the confidence to truly trust my own voice, develop a unique perspective on the comic book industry and grow enough to pursue my own creative goals".

While Wizard as an entity has made its fair share of enemies, Mike Cotton has generally seemed to be well liked, and a steady hand on the tiller. When Wizard made the digital shift, the phrase I heard from many was "well, at least Mike's in charge…" I'm not exactly sure how many employees the digital magazine Wizard is down to now, though a number of people working on the company's numerous conventions, will probably be muscling in.

Cotton's next project will be as feature host of GeekTime on Sirius Radio channel Howard 101 this friday from noon to 2pm ET.
