I think from this, that we can guess that the next season of Sandman on Netflix will include an adaptation of the Sandman story, A Midsummer Night's Dream by Neil Gaiman, Charles Vess and… William Shakespeare, published in Sandman #19 by DC Comics in 1990. The comic won a World Fantasy Award for short fiction in 1991 and ended up forcing the awards to change their rules to recognise Charles Vess as a co-author of the story. Because DC Comics is to publish a remastered edition of the comic, recoloured by Steve Oliff for modern printing possibilities from his original colour guides. And with a new painted cover by Vess instead of the normal Dave McKean version
It follows Shankespeare's appearance in Sandman #13, Men of Good Fortune, in which he is given the gift of the immortality of his writing by Dream in return for writing two plays at Dream's request. This is the first, A Midsummer Night's Dream, a gift by Dream to the Faerie folk as they depart the moral realm, but ensuring that they are never forgotten. And sees the premiere of the play watched by a number of those portrayed in it, Titania, Auberon, Peaseblossom, and Robin Goodfellow – known as Puck – who ends up taking to the stage and playing himself.
