No San Diego Comic Con Parade For 2012

Along with threats to the funding for the extension of the San Diego Convention Center, it looks like the announced nationally televsised San Diego Costume Parade will now not be going ahead. But it's not down to the local government it seems, but Comic Con International: San Diego City Council President Toby Young tweets; No San Diego Comic Con Parade For 2012

Comic Con's David Glanzer has been reported as saying that "Young's statements about the discussions were inaccurate and said Comic-Con's primary reason for not wanting to have the parade downtown was that the logistics, traffic and crowding would be problematic setting up the convention and taking it down."

But as we can see, Young is looking at a separate private individual or company setting up such an event.

And there may be another attraction for those who come to Con but can't get tickets. This year saw a real expansion of activities across the city from the Tr!ckster bar to galleries, to drinking and eating areas sponsored by TV stations and studios. An event taking place in Balboa Park, featuring the art of comic books and anime, for mid July 2012.

And on that, Comic Con and Young seem to be working a little more in tandem.
