Not-The-First-Appearance Of Gambit Page Sells For $7767

It's not the first appearance of Gambit. Not really. Uncanny X-Men #266 was meant to have the first appearance of Gambit, written by Chris Claremont, drawn by Mike Collins and Joe Rubinstein, but he actually appearaed in an X-Men Annual the week before, drawn by Art Adams, after the publishing schedule got muddled up a bit. Nevertheless, this is meant to be the character's proper first appearance. And the page in question has just sold at auction for $7767.50.

A rather high price for a page of nineties Marvel. A sign of things to come?
