One to Watch in Comics for 2018: Jonathan Miller

In 2009, we told you to watch a certain Warner Bros. senior executive called Diane Nelson, who we learned was about to take on extra responsibilities regarding overseeing DC Comics. Shortly afterwards, she was made President of the comic book publisher.

Nine years later, we are asking you to keep an eye on investor and executive Jonathan MillerJonathan Miller

Miller was the Chairman and Chief Executive of News Corporation's digital media group and News Corporation's Chief Digital Officer from April 2009 until October 2012, a role in which he drove the Company's overall digital strategy in conjunction with various operational heads, while also directly overseeing all of News Corp.'s standalone digital businesses. He also acted as News Corp's principal executive for Hulu.

Miller had previously been a founding partner of Velocity, an investment firm focusing on digital media and the consumer Internet, from its inception in February 2007 until April 2009. He is a co-founder of Fuel Media Commerce, which focused on early stage investments.

Prior to founding Velocity, Miller served as Chief Executive Officer of AOL from August 2002 to December 2006 where he led the company to a record annual profit growth of 21 percent, and increased online advertising growth.

Prior to AOL, Miller served as Chief Executive Officer and President of USA Information and Services and of USA Interactive, a predecessor to IACI and Expedia. Miller also served as a director of Ticketmaster Entertainment, Inc. from August 2008 until January 2010, and as a director of Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. from January 2010 through April 2011. He also served as Managing Director of Nickelodeon International, a unit of Viacom's MTV Networks. From 1987 to 1993, he was Vice President, Programming and Co-General Manager of NBA Entertainment, where he was responsible for league-wide brand management and programming.

Miller is currently a member of the Board of Directors of J2 Global, Inc. Miller also serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Film Institute and is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Miller is a Partner at Advancit Capital.

Jon is on the boards of Akamai Technologies, AMC Networks, Interpublic Group of Companies, J2 Global and has been a director of TripAdvisor since the completion of the Spin-Off from Expedia in December 2011. In addition, he serves as a non-profit Director/Trustee for the American Film Institute and Paley Center for Media.

Jon has been awarded the Inaugural Pioneer Prize, Producers Guild of America, 2005 the Inaugural Vanguard Award, International Emmy Association, 2006 the Digital Power Player of the Year, Hollywood Reporter, 2009 and the Monaco Media Festival, Interactive Pioneer Award, 2010. Jon holds a B.A. with honors from Harvard College.

And why are we talking him up so much right now?

We have been given the tipoff that he is involved with something big involving comic books in some way or other. The upcoming Netflix Comics launch has been suggested, but others have dismissed that. Nevertheless, he has been meeting with a number of comic book luminaries of late, with high investment numbers being bandied around.

We look forward to finding out more. We're told to keep an eye out for something semi-launching in March…
