Bleeding Cool Investigates Some Mysterious New Batman Concept Art
If I were a Thomas Hardy, I probably wouldn't abbreviate my name. I'd like being associated with an expensive ale. Huh? Novelist? What?
Anyway. We've known for a week that Tom Hardy has a lead role in the next Batman film, but we didn't know which one. Then some concept designs landed in our inbox and they appeared to have our answer…
As we started to investigate the provenance of the images, the internet began to catch a nasty case of the rumours. People we knew were looking at these three images and starting to come to some pretty bold conclusions. Have a look yourself and see what you would assume:
Okay, so it's pretty much all in the middle one. The one with the Bane in it. That's the zinger. Could Tom Hardy be about to play Bane? Well…
These images come from the blog of concept designer Humza Khan, sometime designer at Electronic Arts who is canvassing to get a gig on the next Batmovie. Looking at them, my first question was: were these images done purely on spec? Or had Khan been working to some kind of brief?
I saw no way of telling from the blog, so I called him up to ask.
Simply put, these images were purely done on spec. Indeed, Khan doesn't even consider Bane a likely character for the next movie thinking he belongs a lot further down the line. But this, he said, is what he thought a Nolan-approved Bane might look like.
Khan's wish is to get a job on the design team for the next Batmovie. I've got no idea if running his art here could in anyway help him, but I'm pretty sure it can't really hurt him. Best wishes, young man.
So – excitement over. Sometimes all you need is a quick phonecall to put the bat back in its box.
