Booze Geek – D.O.R.I.S. The Destroyer Meets Thanos And Darkseid
By Dylan Gonzales
Beer: D.O.R.I.S. the Destroyer
Brewery: Hoppin' Frog
Last night marked my first experience with the Hoppin' Frog Brewery and let me tell you, their D.O.R.I.S. the Destroyer? It lives up to its name. I was very…tired today.
D.O.R.I.S. is black in color, with a slight tinge of brown to it. It produced little to no head, with just a thin ring of foam forming around the rim of the glass. A foamless stout? I knew this beer meant business.
It produced strong notes of chocolate and alcohol. I could tell this was going to be a very boozy beer just from its scent. There were also notes of dried dark fruit, like raisins.
When I finally got around to drinking it, the first thing I noticed was the booziness of D.O.R.I.S. However, it was well balanced out by a good chocolate flavor, as well as the aforementioned dark fruits and roasted malts. All of these combined made for a really delicious, if powerful, concoction.
On the palate, the beer was rather intense. You can't drink this beer fast. I'm telling you that for your own safety. The carbonation is certainly noticeable and the boozy qualities make it very potent.
That all said, I loved this beer. Sure, D.O.R.I.S. certainly had her way with me, but I cannot deny the quality of this beer. It is strong in flavor and presence yet well worth the fight to drink it.
What to Drink This Beer To:
Since D.O.R.I.S. lives up to her namesake, the Destroyer, I would consider this beer fitting of a powerful individual. Somebody who has made a name for themself as a titan of destruction. I see D.O.R.I.S. as a beer worthy to someone like Thanos or Darkseid. With Thanos' popularity on the rise, D.O.R.I.S. would be a great companion to classic tales such as The Infinity Gauntlet, The Return of Thanos or even the recent Infinity. And of course there is the entirety of Jack Kirby's Fourth World epic for Darkseid and the fantastic Justice League arc, Rock of Ages.
Dylan Gonzalez happens to love beer and comic books and luckily found a place to write about both because he has no idea how to actually make money in the real world. He lives in a cave in New Jersey.
