Christopher Lloyd And Others Test Out "Real" Hoverboards In Viral Video [UPDATE: Funny Or Die Is Behind This]
UPDATE: It seems Funny or Die is behind this, thanks to a Google Cached resume of one of the stylists who worked on the shoot (via Badass Digest). But the larger question of "why" is still unanswered.
Something is happening here. Christopher Lloyd, invoking his Back to the Future alter ego Emmett "Doc" Brown, and a bunch of other celebrities gathered in Los Angeles to shoot this video testing out a "real" hoverboard.
No one knows what it's for, but the official website of the company, Huvr Tech, lists a "Destination Time" of December 2014, presumably when the actual thing this is viral marketing will be unveiled.
Could it be a Back to the Future sequel/reboot? Or, as Brendon posits, could it have something to do with Hot Tub Time Machine 2? That comes out in December and Huvr Tech's tagline, "The Future Has Arrived," would certainly fit.
Whatever this actually is, the video does making hoverboarding look pretty cool. Ahh, to dream. Tech Crunch got the jump on this.

And just to reiterate how fake this is and just how low you should be setting your expectations of actual hoverboards becoming a reality, this tidbit is buried in the site's legal page:
