Confirmed: Valiant's Shadowman Returns In December, With Glow-In-The-Dark Covers, And Matt Kindt And Doug Braithwaite
We mentioned that this was coming last week. And Entertainment Weekly have just confirmed it.
Valiant Entertainment's Shadowman is to return in December's Ninjak #10. With glow-in-the-dark covers.
Valiant has revealed plans for "Operation: Deadside" – a four-issue "self-contained event" by Valiant regulars Matt Kindt and Doug Braithwaite.
Featuring Ninjak and Valiant's crusty punk voodoo priestess, Punk Mambo, traveling to the interdimensional realm called Deadside in search of a lost MI-6 expedition team, the storyline will bring them into direct conflict with Shadowman, the wayward hero left stranded in Deadside at the conclusion of Peter Milligan's 2014 run on the character.
Valiant CEO/CCO Dinesh Shamdasani describes the entry point of the story as "absolutely science fiction," telling EW,
"covert military intelligence unit sends 20 agents and a special operative into a parallel dimension. Only one comes back…but as we journey deeper into the story, the world that is struggling to remain grounded will give way to one that is more fantastical. And we're trapping Ninjak and Shadowman between them both. I'm incredibly excited for readers to experience the story. We've been planning the return of Shadowman for a long time and have worked hard to make sure we got it just right. I can't think of a cooler, more exciting way for him to return. Ninjak is the perfect counterpoint for him. He was born into wealth, but suffered great neglect and abuse. As a result, he embraced a life of espionage and violence, relying on his own physical and technological skills. He's been a match for everything the world has thrown at him thus far and he's bringing that cockiness to Deadside. Add to that his unique moral compass and you've got fireworks."
The series will also feature some distinctive (and pretty nifty) Paranormal Activity-styled trade dress, as well as three glow-in-the-dark covers by Doug Braithwaite, Trevor Hairsine, and designer Tom Muller.
With Baltimore Comic Con and the appended Diamond Retailer Summit fast approaching at the end of September, expect to hear more from Valiant about Operation: Deadside and their future plans for Shadowman very, very soon…
