Sunday Trending Topics: Disassembling Iron Man 3
Ah, there's nothing quite like the moment the first bit of footage of a comic book movie hits the internet. It's the perfect combination of about 5 different kinds of nerdy data analysis — pausing and screencapping those tightly cut scenes, collating them with known info about the film, blowing up pixels to look for secrets, identifying locations, and comparing it all with the accepted comic book canon. It's all a lot of work, so thank god for Brendon Connelly.

So, first, is the phrase "Mewling Quim." Said, or rather, spat by Loki to Black Widow, this is possibly the most offensive line in the film, beyond even Wolverine's in X-Men: First Class. It is just that some people aren't too familiar with the derivation. In more modern English, this would be "whining cunt".

For comic industry observers of the late nineties and noughties, the rivalry between Marvel and DC reached epic heights. After the Marvel bankruptcy, the company did all it could to lift itself out of the more, throwing everything at the wall to see what stuck. Which included an aggressive media prescence spearheaded, publicly at least, by Bill Jemas and Joe Quesada.

At the New York Comic Con, I happened to find myself at one of the DC Comics panels. And I couldn;t help but hear a most entertaining conversation behind me, before the panel began. Turning round, I met Lucy Noonan. And now you get to meet her too…
